This comprehensive laboratory set for analog and digital curriculum was developed by educators to teach DC circuits, AC circuits, analog electronics, and digital electronics. Each lab comes complete with detailed instructions, NI Multisim circuit files, and NI ELVIS setup descriptions. Two key labs also include virtual instruments developed in LabVIEW. The NI ELVIS and Multisim platform combine to provide students with a strong foundation of electrical engineering concepts through simulation and hands-on circuit building.

Ohm's Law

Students verify the three ways in which Ohm's law can be used to calculate voltage, current and resistance.

Kirchhoff's Voltage Law

Students verify that the total resistance of a circuit in series is the individual sum of the resistors and check Kirchhoff's voltage law for circuits connected in series.

Kirchhoff's Current Law

Students recognize the features of parallel resistive circuits and check Kirchhoff's current law for various circuits.

Thevenin and Norton Equivalent Circuits

Students create and simulate Thevenin and Norton equivalent circuits using NI ELVIS and Multisim.

Voltage Divider and Resistance Bridge

Students learn the operation of a voltage divider and the behavior of a resistance bridge through the NI ELVIS multimeter.

Series and Parallel Capacitors

Students verify the capacitance behavior of capacitors connected in series and in parallel.

RC Circuits

Students learn the principle of operation of an RC circuit and observe a capacitor's charge and discharge curves.

RLC Circuits

Students observe the attenuated response of an RLC circuit and analyze the frequency response of the RLC circuit in order to find its resonating frequency.

Transformers and Turn Relationship

Students learn the principle of electromagnetic induction and how it applies to electric circuits by means of transformers.


Students determine the behavior of the diodes using the Voltage-Current curves and understand their operation and applications.

Bipolar Transistors

Students learn the principle of operation of a transistor using its characteristic curves.

Transistors Used as Interrupters

Students analyze the behavior of a transistor set up to work as an interrupter.

Transistors Used as Amplifiers

Students learn to polarize a transistor correctly so it can be used to amplify an AC voltage signal, and use the Bode Analyzer to find the amplifier gain.

Logic Gates

Students verify the operation of AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR logic gates.

Karnaugh Maps

Students learn to simplify a Boolean expression using the Karnaugh maps, and verify it with the NI ELVIS II.

Flip Flops

Students learn the principles of operation of Flip-Flops using digital reading and writing with NI ELVIS.

Multivibrator Circuits (555)

Students verify the 555 timer operation as an astable and monostable multivibrator.

Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC)

Students verify the operation of A/D converters.

Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC)

Students learn and verify the principles of operation of D/A converters.
