IIoThink Lab based on NI ELVIS III

The IoT links smart objects to the Internet. It enables an exchange of data never available before and brings users information in a more secure way. Industrial IoT is when the Internet and networks expand to places such as manufacturing floors, energy grids, healthcare facilities, and transportation. Industrial devices, such as sensors, actuators, embedded controllers are being connected to the internet allowing online and remote control and monitoring.

As the industry develops, the need for educated human resources is also increasing, but at the moment the traditional courses in the universities do not cover all the specific knowledge related to the IoT.

IIoThink Lab is educational software, which consists of special courseware and a trainer kit that teaches about the Industrial Internet of Things. The product includes not only the full curriculum with detailed instructions but also the special software which works with IBM Watson and NI SystemLink cloud technologies and the hardware platform, so students can have their hands-on experiments and understand how “things” are designed.

The product is designed to reduce the gap between Electrical Engineering and Computer Science students who very often want to collaborate or need to work together in organizations to build products of future, which require both engineering and programming skills. It is a three-month introductory course for on-boarding into the knowledge of sensors, actuators, data acquisition, connectivity, cloud computing, data analysis, etc., which are all essential parts of any IoT product.
